EVALUATIONS: A STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The purpose of evaluations is to improve the practice of all educators. In order for improvement to occur, the evaluator and the person being evaluated must be engaged in a professional conversation focused on specific, measurable criteria. This conversation occurs throughout the "evaluation cycle" which includes the pre-conference, the observation, and the post-conference. Both parties are equal participants in the professional conversation, and their conversation is focused on the specific, measureable criteria from the evaluation rubric. The evaluator provides evidence collected during the observation, and the person being evaluated provides evidence of practices that may not have been observable. The City School District of Albany's APPR Committee considers the professional conversation to be at the heart of the evaluation process, and therefore, our decisions and planning are made to protect this principle.
